Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith
“Star Wars - Episode 3: Revenge of the Sith” had a lot to live up to. Thousands, if not millions of people like me, who’ve obsessed over the saga for years, each had their own idea of what would happen.
I wasn’t disappointed.
Okay, well, maybe just a little.
The opening sequence is gorgeous, but it looked more like a ballet than an actual dogfight. I never got a real sense of danger. It also seemed a little long. In fact, I found myself thinking several times that the movie was dragging. Never for very long, but it was there.
What wasn’t there, was Padmé being a senator. She was always just crying in her apartment. I wanted to see the Jedi put up a fight not get cut down by clones. The final battle, the one we’ve all imagined since 1977, would have been better with fewer close-ups, so we could appreciate the duel. And how about showing us the beginnings of the Rebel Alliance? Instead, we get a new villain, General Grievous, who serves little purpose in the film.
But Palpatine’s manipulations made me squirm, and Anakin’s concern for his wife and his desire to be his own master hooked me, emotionally. I understood how and why the little boy became the Dark Lord and that’s what this whole trilogy is about.
“Revenge of the Sith” may not be perfect, but it is a fitting finale to the “Star Wars” saga.
