Constantine - Widescreen DVD
Half-breed angels and demons are among us on Earth, maintaining an uneasy balance between good and evil. When demons obtain a holy relic that can give the devil's son the power to enter our world, all hell breaks loose. John Constantine (Keanu Reeves) can see the half-breeds, but he cannot stop the plot himself. When he teams up with Angela Dodson (Rachel Weisz), a police officer investigating her twin sister's death, he realizes she has the power to help him.
"Constantine" is filled with interesting concepts and it's entertaining, but it's probably better to shut down your brain while you're watching it. Almost every scene left me with questions, starting with the very first one ? why are these guys picking around the dirt floor of a demolished church? In the first exorcism scene, what happens to the guy whose hair turns white? These things aren't important, but as a viewer, they bug me. Maybe the comics explain some of this stuff, but I wasn't riveted enough by the film to look into it.
I found the sound mixing very poor. I could hardly understand some of the dialogue, though the music and sound effects were overly loud.
The extras with the standard widescreen version (as opposed to the collectors edition) are several deleted scenes, interesting because several of them are alternate versions of scenes in the film. I like the alternate ending better than the one used.
In short, "Constantine" was worth watching but nothing I'd want to own.
