Lake House, The
If the past captures up with the present, their future will begin.
I’d love to say that The Lake House is based on a true-life story, but alas, I can’t because it’s fiction. Yes, I’m a romantic, blubbering thirty-something gal, who’s in love with the idea of romantic love, set amongst a time-traveling romantic mystery. The Lake House enchanted me, and gave me what I’ve been craving for so long in a love story, and that’s that The Lake House took my heart to a place where the possibilities of love, found in the most unorthodox way seemed actually, well, possible. And if you feel like I do, that’s why you can believe in The Lake House. Even if the element that made The Lake House a fantasy, were not present, it would still be a beautiful love story. But keeping that fantasy element in made The Lake House is a modern take on “Somewhere in Time”, one of the best love stories to focus its storyline on a time travel love affair.
Alex (Keanu Reeves) a talented architect whose vision is wasting away at his current job and Kate (Sandra Bullock) a compassionate doctor who’s fighting a battle on how to let love into her heart, and keep it there, begin exchanging love letters, after Kate moves out of The Lake House only to realize, that Alex, the new tenant, is unexplainably living two years apart from her. Deep and captivating performances sewn together with humor and heartache, gave the supporting roles by Christopher Plummer, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Ebon Moss-Bachrach well-deserved moments of tears and big smiles, while Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock allowed me to live vicariously, for almost two hours of romantic bliss watching their chemistry light up on the screen.
Music supplied many additional moods to the growing story, and Paul McCartney's song “This Never Happened Before” is my favorite piece.
The Lake House is rated PG and I love that it is. For there is nothing sweeter and more romantic when a couple’s eyes softly and passionately lock together and follow it with a long and lovely kiss. The kind of kiss you want so badly to see. The kiss of anticipation that leaves you forgetting to breathe, and then, has your mind screaming the words… please kiss, please kiss now before I loose consciousness! And when they do, it’s simply magical. Then, you breathe. And that’s just one of two very important kisses in the movie. Yep, I feel hard for The Lake House, and you might too. Love can truly concur all, if it’s meant to be.
