The Nativity Story
Review of The Nativity Story
The Nativity Story opened on Friday and claimed the No. 4 spot at the box office over the weekend with just over 8 million.
The movie portrays the two year period of Mary and Joseph and follows them leaving Nazareth and heading to Bethlehem for the birth of Jesus.
New Zealand born Keisha Castle-Hughes (youngest ever best actress nominee for Whale Rider) plays a convincing Mary, a young woman transformed by the burden of carrying the messiah. Shortly after filming wrapped, the 16 year old actress married her 19 year old boyfriend and is currently pregnant with her first child.
The other performances in the film were lackluster, surprisingly though the three Wise Men (Nadim Sawalha, Eriq Ebouaney and Stefan Kalipha) provided comic relief as they joked their way through the desert.
This re-make sticks closely to the traditional tale, and has the answer for all those who question “What’s the real meaning of Christmas?” It's worth seeing if you need a reminder.
