40 Days & 40 Nights

"40 Days & 40 Nights" starring Josh Hartnett, Shannyn Sossamon and Paulo Costanzo is the ultimate “girls night in” movie, full of scenes to make you giggle, swoon, throw refreshments at the television, and laugh out loud ‘til the very end.

First: Josh Hartnett. He’s tall, handsome, and he’s having major woman trouble. His solution? Swear off all sexual contact (including masturbation) for Lent in hopes of getting emotional clarity and to get over a bad breakup with a woman he worshiped. Things are working, too, until he meets Erica (Sossamon) and begins courting her. Hartnett is simply adorable as he courts her platonically, attempting to leave sex out of the equation. And when he starts to feel that “forty-day itch,” his twitchiness and pent-up sexual energy make him even more amusing to watch.

Second: Paulo Costanzo. You may remember him from an equally hilarious film, "Road Trip." Here he plays Hartnett’s friend who finds out about “the vow” and starts a pool, taking bets on when Matt (Hartnett) will cave. In an effort to win the pool female coworkers try to seduce Matt, pornography is suggestively placed at his desk, and one coworker even tries to slip him some Viagra. Costanzo and the gang keep us laughing at just how cunning they’ll get to win the pool.

And Sossamon. You may remember her from "A Knight’s Tale" and hate her for getting love scenes with Hollywood’s hottest leading men. I personally find her beauty intriguing, and so does Matt, who can’t help but pursue her, even with “the vow.” Their non-physical courtship and relationship makes audiences realize how much relationships are based on physical attraction and sex, and how difficult abstinence really is in today’s society.

Girls and guys: buy this movie and watch it with friends. It won’t disappoint.
