Trading Places

A poor man and a rich man switch places.

In "Trading Places" (1983) Dan Aykroyd plays a rich, successful investor and Eddie Murphy plays a poor bum from the streets of Philadelphia. As a result of a bet between two rich, powerful brothers, the two "Saturday Night Live" stars switched environments. Murphy was given all of Aykroyd's money and belongings while Aykroyd was thrown on the street. The experience turned the two men into bitter rivals, but taught each of them a great deal about themselves.

The film is hilarious and brilliant at the same time. "Trading Places" puts a comedy spin on the nature versus nurture debate and even takes a stance on the issue. The film is almost 25 years old, but does not feel dated at all because the issues it discusses remain hot topics of debate by psychologists today. Aykroyd and Murphy have great chemistry together, and I highly recommend this film.
