Buffy: The Vampire Slayer Season Seven

The final season of the hit show.

The previous six seasons of Buffy were all marked by an ultimate evil. The first was the The Master, ruler of the Order of Auralius, and most vampires. The second was Buffy’s former lover and boyfriend. The third, the mayor of Sunnydale and pure demon. The fourth was a demon, human, technological hybrid. The fifth, a god, and the last, one of their own. The final season had to be someone or something more major than the previous ones. So, in the final season, Buffy and her friends have to take on evil itself, the First (the first evil), to be more specific.

After the emotional twister of season six, Giles has taken Willow back to England to learn how to control her powers and be more at peace. While there, he discovers that the First is systematically having all potential slayers and their watchers killed. Even the watchers’ council is completely destroyed. He travels around the world collecting the remaining potential slayers, and transporting them to Sunnydale. Before he does this, he packs Willow off to provide aid. Her return features one of the scariest adversaries ever to appear on Buffy. He makes creepy sounds when he moves, and he kills by immobilizing victims then peeling their skin off and lapping up their blood.

While this season has one of the chilling monsters, it also has some of the funniest episodes. Buffy is offered a counseling job at the newly reopened Sunnydale High (the principal of which happens to be the son of a slayer). The football star is in possession of a jacket that, when worn, makes all girls in the vicinity fall in love. Every time one of the Scooby girls falls for him, she gets goo-goo eyes and hears “Theme From A Summer Place.”

Some fans call this the worst season of Buffy, but the return of so many characters -— Angel, Giles, Andrew, Jonathon and Faith, as well as the addition of the potential slayers and Dawn’s maturity, make it a season worth watching. A wonderful finale for a groundbreaking series.
