Whenever anyone asks me what my favorite movie is, I respond with “Fools Rush In.” Sometimes, after I explain a little bit about the movie to the person who asked, they know exactly what movie I’m talking about. Other times, they’ve never heard of the movie, since it was released ten years ago (which is such a long time ago).
The movie stars Matthew Perry (Chandler from “Friends”) as Alex Whitman, a New York construction supervisor who is sent to oversee the construction of a nightclub in Las Vegas. Once in the city of sin, Alex meets Isabel Fuentes (played by Salma Hayek), a photographer.
Sparks fly between the two, and they spend one night together. When Alex wakes up the next morning, Isabel is gone and he believes he will never see her again.
Fast-forward to three months later when Isabel tracks Alex down and informs him that she is pregnant. Isabel tells Alex she plans to keep the baby and tell her family. Not wanting her to go through the ordeal alone, Alex accompanies her to her family’s house where he meets a family that is very much unlike his own.
Wanting to do the right thing after meeting her family, Alex proposes and the couple has a quickie Vegas style wedding complete with Elvis.
The plot may seem a little predictable, but the messages about fate and the way Hayek and Perry interact are too amazing to pass up. By the end of the movie, you will be crying on the edge of your seat so don’t forget the tissues!
So what happens? Will the marriage last and will the Whitmans live happily ever after with their bundle of joy? You’ll just have to watch the movie and find out.
