Schindler
It is no wonder why "Schindler's List" won seven Oscars at the 1994 Academy Awards, including ones for Best Music, Best Director and Best Picture. From start to finish, this film will inspire viewers to strive to do good for the world and the people in it. Everything from the characters, to camera angles, to the black and white color of the film expresses art and symbolism at its finest. Above everything else this film represents, it stands for the fact that no matter how hopeless a situation seems there is always the possibility and opportunity to fight for what you believe in and succeed. No matter how small or great a help your effort has, it remains an impact on the events and the people who are part of them.
Oskar Schindler (Liam Nelson) is a business man without scruples during the Holocaust. He originally sees exploiting Jewish people as a way of making money. His good standing with the Nazi Party easily connects him with the means of obtaining a factory and the cheap labor needed to run it. However, once his eyes are truly opened to the ghastly events happening around him and the people that are suffering because of it, he becomes determined to change his factory from a place of labor to a place of refuge. He uses his alliance with the Nazi party and his money in an effort to save as many Jews as possible from the fate that awaits them at concentration camps. By the end of the movie, we learn that he has saved over 1,100 people from certain cruel death and still that does not seem to be enough for him. However, in the survivors' eyes and in the eyes of the rest of the world, he becomes a hero and a symbol for all the righteousness that lies within us.
"Schindler's List" is a film that portrays the destructive nature of humanity at its worst. However, it also proves that despite all of the evil that is going on around us there remains hope, which shines through like a candle in the dead of night. Though the candle is small, it lights the way for the world to see. "Schindler's List" is about good triumphing over evil, heroes, villains, struggles, passion and forgiveness. Most of all, this movie is about a single man who had the power to light the way for more than a thousand people.
