American Gangster

Before watching "American Gangster," I was hyped to see it because interest flurried after hearing about it for so long; and watching the series on Frank Lucas on BET. During the movie, I compared it to "Scarface" about twenty times. After watching it, I figured that I’d rather watch "Scarface," because it’s the same story, only in different neighborhoods.

As great as Denzel Washington is in dramatic roles, such as this one, he doesn’t illustrate the same Frank Lucas I saw on the BET series. The character portrayed in this movie is the same character portrayed in "Remember the Titans." Washington’s most recent movie in which he is totally out of his personal character is "Training Day" – the movie he won an Academy Award for. I personally think that co-star Russell Crowe would’ve played a better Frank Lucas than Denzel.

The movie was exaggerated; for the BET series showed more truth of the story. If you want to see a movie just like "Scarface," then "American Gangster" is the one.
