“About A Boy,” released in 2002, was directed by Chris and Paul Weitz and based on the novel by Nick Hornby. This romantic comedy stars Hugh Grant as the character Will and Nicholas Hoult as the character Marcus.
Will Freeman is a carefree 30-year-old bachelor living in London off the royalties of his father’s famous Christmas carol. In his search for single women, Will realizes that single moms may be a previously untapped resource. He begins to attend Single Parents Alone Together meetings in order to hit on the single mothers. Along the way, he meets a 12-year old boy named Marcus. Marcus has a suicidal mother and tries to convince Will to become part of their family as a safety precaution. Will and Marcus learn to help each other with problems in life and become friends along the way.
