Crazy/Beautiful

“Crazy/Beautiful,” released in 2001, stars Kirsten Dunst as Nicole Oakley and Jay Hernandez as Carlos Nunez. Written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi and directed by John Stockwell, the film centers around a troubled rich girl and her romance with a poor Latino boy.

Nicole is 17 and attending high school in her upscale Los Angeles neighborhood. She is the daughter of a wealthy congressman and gets her thrills from breaking all the rules. Carlos is a hard-working, straight A student who travels two hours every day by bus in order to attend the respected high school in Nicole’s neighborhood. The two young adults begin to flirt and their encounters develop into a full-fledged passionate relationship. Nicole’s self-destructive behavior put their relationship on the rocks as well as Carlos’ future in jeopardy. The couple’s families disapprove of their situation, making things that much more difficult. Will their passion prevail or will Carlos be forced to plan his future without Nicole?
