Closer
Closer, released in 2004, has an all-star cast including Natalie Portman, Jude Law, Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Written by Patrick Marber and directed by Mike Nichols, the film centers around two couples who become passionately entwisted in each others lives.
The movie begins with a young American woman getting hit by a cab in London when she looks the opposite way of oncoming traffic, trying to cross the street. Dan happened to catch her eye right before the collision as he was walking in the opposite direction. He rushes to her side after the accident and she awakens from unconsciousness, looks at him once more and says, “Hello, stranger.” He takes her to the hospital for her minor injury and they form a romantic relationship.
Dan meets a photographer woman on business and starts to have an attraction towards her, after he has been in his relationship for a long time. The photographer is involved with a successful doctor name Larry, but when he meets Dan’s girlfriend, flirtations begin to fly between all four people. The two couples endure a long journey of betrayal, passion, sex and love that gets more complicated as the years go on.
