The Philadelphia Story
Grant and Hepburn in a hilarious classic
The Philadelphia Story was made in 1940, so it’s not exactly mainstream, but the black and white movie still makes a generous name for itself. The movie, starring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn and James Stewart is a great movie if you’re in the mood for something to laugh at.
Cary Grant makes a name for himself once more in this movie and always provides a laugh. The opening scene has him being thrown out of his house by a wife (Katharine Hepburn) who he is obviously having a fight with. When she breaks one of his golf clubs over her leg he follows her back to the front door and makes like he’ll punch her then shoves her back pushing his hand into her face.
After this, the movie is well on its way to impressing its crowd. Laughs are provided in this movie through witty banter, mostly between Grant and Hepburn, and slapstick every once in a while that livens up the scenes.
After being outed by his wife, two years later Grant’s character helps a reporter and his associate into the biggest wedding in Philadelphia that summer between Grant’s ex-wife and a Philadelphia socialite. The banter between the two is great and provides for many laughs as his ex-wife begins to see who she is and exactly what she wants.
