South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut

The potty-mouthed kids try to thwart a U.S. waged war against Canada.

Compared to The Simpsons, it took no time at all to whip up a full-length feature to Comedy Central’s hit cartoon, South Park. We’re back in the snow covered Colorado mountain town where the four boys see the newly released, R-rated, Terrence and Philip movie, to everyone’s dismay. After the viewing, everyone proclaims they are corrupt and the parents of South Park wage a war on Canada for promoting such filth and infiltrating their children’s minds with vulgarity.

South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is an elongated episode that doesn’t seem to lose steam. It’s much raunchier and pushes the envelope as it’s blessed with an R rating, which gave the creators the green light to expose themselves. I thought it was funny as hell, as all the classic characters got to have their moment in the sun.

One thing I did appreciate, that South Park always seems to do well, is the songs. The movie could potentially be classified as a musical with all the numbers performed. Their songs are hilarious and outrageous in terms of the subject matter and don’t lose sight of what’s at stake. Whether it’s about Brian Boitano having superpowers or blaming Canada for America’s problems, it’s one joke after another that comes tumbling out.

In this intimate setting, the boys seem to possess the key to Earth’s salvation and safety as they meander through the midst of chaos propelled by their blinded idiotic parents who jump to conclusions far too frequently. The movie follows the same formula as the show, as it’s just drawn out a bit and an adequate amount of jokes are thrown in to ensure the story doesn’t lag.

Fans of the show will love it as people who aren’t familiar with the show’s humor might put up a barrier at first. But I think they will succumb to the outlandish behavior and potty-mouthed fourth graders. South Park manages to utilize its strengths and keep the same formula to ensure that it stays fresh.
