Gilmore Girls: Season Two

The girls are back and better than before.

Season one of the Gilmore Girls laid a foundation for the show that would take the WB by storm. Although it was hard at first for audiences to grasp the lightning-fast dialogue, the show gained a wide following among mothers and daughters, and later among anyone who enjoyed a hilarious, yet dramatic show about growing up.

At the end of season one, Max Medina (a teacher at Rory’s school) had proposed to Lorelai. At the beginning of season two, she’s accepted and the girls are now planning the wedding and figuring out how to include a man into their world of two. Rory is in love with a local boy named Dean, and figuring out how relationships are supposed to work. A diner owner named Luke has been one of Lorelai’s best friends (and has been head over heels for her) in the eight years since she and Rory moved to Stars Hollow, and he is less than thrilled about the upcoming nuptials. The rest of the town (full of other interesting characters) is trying to accept Max and include them into their strange society.

To name a few, Miss Patty, who owns the dance studio; Taylor Doose, who owns the grocery store and is Town Selectman (and is a huge busybody); Babette Dell, Lorelai’s crazy next-door neighbor (played by Sally Struthers); Sookie St. James, the chef at the inn and Lorelai’s best friend; Jackson Belleville, Sookie’s husband (at the end of season two) is Sookie’s vegetable man; and finally, Kirk. There’s really no way to describe Kirk, he’s just Kirk and is a huge draw for the show.

During the season, Rory doubts her love for Dean when Luke’s nephew, Jess, comes to stay. Lorelai calls off the wedding because she figures out that she’s probably not in love with Max the way she should be. Season two is a step up from season one - things are more definite and characters more secure. The story line is interesting and there are lots of quirky and fun episodes thrown in the mix. A must see for anyone who enjoyed season one.
