88 Minutes
Complete Thrills and Spills
Director of Fried Green Tomatoes and Up Close and Personal can add the thriller category to his list of successful movies. Jon Avnet manages to keep the audience’s attention constantly throughout the film with suspense around every corner. It doesn’t hurt to have Al Pacino as the star of the movie, either.
College professor and forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Jack Gramm, must solve a serial killing crime, while possible outside helpers of Jon Forster, his most dangerous enemy, are chasing him with evidence to portray him as the murderer. Forster is on death row because Gramm convinced a jury he was the one responsible for countless other killings. Forster, on the night of his execution, explains on live television that Gramm manipulated the witnesses and victims to convict Forster of the crimes.
Dangerously intelligent students, FBI agent allies, and a curious one night stand all carry this plot around various edges of suspense and uneasiness.
A touch of sensitivity is added to the complex plot when audiences learn about the death of Gramm’s little sister, perpetrated by another one of his angry foes.
While solving a murder crime, Dr. Jack is also told by an anonymous caller that he only has 88 minutes to live. Why 88 minutes you ask? Watch the movie and you will find out. . . .
