Catacombs
Visiting her sister in Paris, a young woman finds herself trapped in the catacombs beneath the city, being chased by a monster.
Young Victoria (Shannyn Sossamon) goes to Paris to visit her sister, Carolyn (Pink). Carolyn takes her to a party in the catacombs under the city, rumored to be the grounds of a satanic cult. When the party gets busted by the police, and Victoria finds herself trapped in the catacombs, her imagination runs wild as she finds herself being stalked by the demon child of the cult.
Great premise for a movie. Not knowing a lot about the French catacombs, I was intrigued by the story. However, the movie soon turned into the watch Victoria run around by herself show. We get to see one killing at about the half hour mark (Pink), and then we see Victoria being lost for the next 45 minutes. With little tension. And no feeling of being trapped underground. They may as well have filmed this movie out of doors, as there was no claustrophobic, please get me out of here feeling.
The movie does move along at a fair pace, but the "twist" ending will leave you feeling unsatisfied. Had they stuck to the "drama" created in the subtext of the movie, it would have been a much better film.
