America's Sweethearts

Fall in love with America's Sweethearts . . .

They were in all of your favorite movies - Autumn with Greg and Peg, Requiem for an Outfielder, The Bench, Sasha and the Optometrist. Eddie Thomas and Gwen Harrison captured more than just audiences, they captured hearts. Their fairy-tale romance transcended from the screen to real life as their marriage inspired a nation - America’s sweethearts.

Their divorce, just as bitter as their romance was passionate, crushed what their brilliant romance helped build. Eddie was left a shell of his former self, someone who would drive a motorcycle through a window of a restaurant in order to disrupt the “crumbling duck” enjoyed by his ex and her new lover.

Gwen, shacked up as she was with Hector, remained as self-involved as ever. Her sister, Kiki, was forced to become her personal assistant, not only tasked with her sister’s schedule, but tasked with her sister. The sister that used her in high school whenever she was sick of a boyfriend, the sister that made fun of her because of her weight, the sister that was, in fact, not made for Eddie in the first place.

On the eve of the release of the new Hal Weidmann film, the best publicist in the business, is tasked with controlling the press junket, getting the stars to the hotel and making sure that Eddie and Gwen’s last movie is delivered on time. Of course, with the main stars’ instability, this proves exceedingly difficult.

Hal (portrayed by the incomparable Christopher Walken) is an unstable director who works out of the Unibomber’s old cabin. After days of delaying the press, Lee is forced to show Hal’s movie after the director flies the movie in by helicopter. Hal wishes the movie to be “experienced” by the press at the junket.

Of course, Kiki and Eddie end up together, and Gwen is forced to live with her Latin lover (played expertly by Hank Azaria), after the biggest disaster of a premiere in the existence of Hollywood.

The biggest names in the business make this movie a quiet success. The writing is absolutely hilarious! Annoying actresses, self-involved actors . . . the script is genius. Everyone will think this movie worth at least a laugh.
