The Fall

When a wild story is injected with bits of reality, the result is this visually stunning cinematic masterpiece.

Five-year-old illegal immigrant Alexandria is in the hospital after suffering a broken arm sustained when she fell while picking oranges in California in the early 1920s. Her generally sunny and curious disposition has made her a favorite among the staff, and as attempts are made to toss a note to her friend, Nurse Evelyn, both of them are baffled as to where it lands. Alexandria goes down to investigate, and discovers a man in a different ward reading her note.

His name is Roy, and he is paralyzed from the waist down after a mishap during a stunt on a movie set. Roy was attempting to impress the leading lady of a film with his prowess as a stuntman by jumping off of a train bridge onto a horse. Instead, she ends up with the film's leading man, and Roy ends up in the hospital. Roy befriends Alexandria in order to coerce her into stealing pills for him. To do so, he weaves a story of five brave heroes. Due to Roy's delicate state of mind, and Alexandria's innocence, they both lose their grip on the line between fantasy and reality as the story becomes more intricate.

Roy abruptly halts the tale, and refuses to continue until Alexandria retrieves morphine from the dispensary. Her feeble grasp of English writing causes a mix-up, wherein Roy only receives three pills from Alexandria, instead of the whole bottle for which he was hoping. Forced to put off his suicide, he continues the tale. When a second attempt also fails, Alexandria believes Roy to be dead anyway, and upon finding him alive, goes immediately to steal more pills so he'll finish the story. She falls off a stepladder and has to undergo brain surgery. Roy finishes the story while she's in recovery, and through the story, Alexandria convinces Roy to live.

The bold imagery, vivid story line and impeccably-cast characters transform this Spike Jonze and David Fincher effort into a breathtaking world - making it a must-see. It was shot over a span of four years in 18 countries, and is one of the most visually dynamic films of our age.
