You Got Served

Two friends form a L.A. dance crew to win a dance battle and pursue their dreams of opening up a recording studio.

If you ever wanted to be inspired to dance, this would be the movie to watch. However, the dancing is the only aspect of the movie worth seeing. The R&B group B2K should just stick to music because acting is not their forte. Although their dancing is impeccable, that’s as far as their skills go. Elgin, played by Marques Houston, and David, played by Omari Grandberry, are the best of friends. They have a dream of one day opening up a recording studio. In order to make some cash, the two formed an unstoppable L.A. dance crew. They battle other crews for money and bragging rights. Once another team from Orange County challenges them to a battle, Elgin and David along with Rico, played by Jarell Houston, Rashann, played by Dreux Frederic, and Vick, played by DeMario Thornton, must find new dance moves to keep them on top.

Since the stakes are raised, Elgin and David feel pressured to get the money to spend for the crew. Unfortunately, their friendship was also at stake after their job of running errands for a local crime boss Emerald, played by Michael Taliferro, led to Elgin getting jumped. Elgin could not forgive David and they went their separate ways forming their own crews.

Both of their crews were invited to be on an MTV dance-off where they would compete for $50,000 and dance in ‘Lil Kim’s new video. Of course, the two become friends again and predictably, received the grand prize after winning the tiebreaker against the Orange County Crew.

“You Got Served” is a predictable dance movie where all the characters have their dreams come true and live happily ever after. The hip-hop segments are amazing but it’s the only part of the movie that caught my interest.
