Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
This film, starring John C. Reilly, is a comedy about the life of fictional singer Dewey Cox.
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, is a musical mockumentary profiling the life of fictional singer Dewey Cox. This film is a non-stop train of laughs, with a great soundtrack.
Dewey Cox (played by John C. Reilly) is a musician in the tradition of Johnny Cash and Ray Charles, among others. Throughout his life, Cox loves, loses and learns life’s lessons with the help of his friends, his band and his wives, Edith (Kristin Wiig) and Darlene (Jenna Fischer).
The best thing about this film was the music. The songs played by Cox and his band were both humorous and well written. The music carried the film through some of its less funny moments.
The one drawback of this film, was its casting of comedians to play music superstars. Frankie Muniz should never have been cast as Buddy Holly. The casting of Jack Black, Justin Long, Paul Rudd and Jason Schwartzman as the Beatles was not a good move either. They both distracted the viewer from the plot as they thought, “Why is he in that role?”
If you enjoyed Walk the Line and This Is Spinal Tap, see this film, you won’t regret it.
