La Vie en Rose
La Vie en Rose is a biopic about the life of singer Edith Piaf. Piaf came from incredibly poor beginnings to become one of the most famous singers in the world.
Edith Piaf (portrayed by Marion Cotillard), is shown in all stages of her life in the film. This is done mainly through the use of flashbacks in a non-linear pattern. Piaf finds her voice, loses and regains her sight and learns to love. The film uses the flashbacks to point out significant events in Piaf's life, from her birth, until her death.
The best part of this film was Marion Cotillard. She played a perfect Edith Piaf. I could not think of a better casting for this role. Cotillard encapsulated both Piaf the performer, and Piaf the woman. Cotillard, with her performance, truly resurrected Edith Piaf.
The one criticism I have of this film is the constant non-linear flashbacks. It made the film confusing and hard to follow. Having known the story of Edith Piaf's life prior to watching the film, I knew what was going on in each scene; however, it took some time to identify each event.
If you are a fan of biographies or Edith Piaf, make La Vie en Rose your next film choice.
