In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale

This fantasy film is about the struggle for the throne of a mystical kingdom.

In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale is a fantasy film about the battle for the throne of the fictional kingdom of Ehb.

The story focuses on a man called Farmer (played by Jason Statham), who was secretly adopted by his village. When Farmer's wife, Solana (Claire Forlani), and his son leave to sell vegetables in the neighboring town of Stonebridge, the farm is attacked by beasts called Krugs. With the help of his friend and neighbor, Norrick (Ron Perlman), he travels to Stonebridge, only to find the Krugs killed his son and took his wife. With the help of Norrick and Bastian (Will Sanderson), Farmer's brother-in-law, he sets out to find and save his wife. The Krugs are controlled by the wizard, Gallian (Ray Liotta), who is amassing an army to overthrow King Konreid (Burt Reynolds), along with the King's nephew, Fallow (Matthew Lillard).

The only redeeming quality of this film was the special effects. The magic being cast in the film as well as the intense fight scenes were enjoyable. I only wish the entire movie was made up of these scenes.

The plot of this film was sophomoric at best. Until about halfway through, I thought I might be watching a film from some other fantasy franchise. It lacked originality and was highly predictable.

This would be a film I would recommend to someone only as a last resort. If you can avoid watching this film, do so.
