Management
Management (Samuel Goldwyn Films) is a C+ movie at best.
"Management" (Rated R) tells the story of Sue Claussen, played by Jennifer Aniston, and Mike Cranshaw, played by Steve Zahn, two characters that seem to be stuck at a standstill in their lives.
Sue is an art salesperson who sells cheap pieces to motels while dreaming of running a state of the art soup kitchen. Mike is an aimless dreamer who spends his days working at his parents’ hotel in Arizona. The two come across one another when Sue checks into this very motel on a business trip and Mike immediately falls in love with her. After a one-day romp, he decides to follow her cross-country in pursuit of his purpose in life, which he believes is to be with her.
The movie’s pitfalls are the slow pace and the overall lack of humor, though it claims to be a romantic comedy. The plot itself is decent, though it is certainly far-reaching. "Management" has its moments, though they are just that – moments. The movie begins to explore the complexity of human nature and relationships but it fails to delve beneath the surface. There is no explanation for why Mike has seemingly never had drive in life or why Sue has difficulty letting anyone in. The characters are just the way they are; some more background would have helped to give the movie some depth.
Overall, "Management" is just another indie film that failed in its attempt to be something great. Wait to rent the DVD.
