Dance Flick
The group who brought us the "Scary Movie" spoof and "White Chicks," has created a new comedy that is equally funny. "Dance Flick" is a hysterical new action comedy that will have you laughing non-stop throughout the film.
Directed by Damien Dante Wayans, "Dance Flick" revolves around a young street dancer, Thomas Uncles, who grew up from a bad neighborhood, and a beautiful blond, Megan White. White has had a dream of attending Juilliard and making it as a dancer. However, on the day of her audition, her mother is killed in a car accident. She is forced to leave everything she has ever known behind, including her friends and school, and move to another impoverished city with her father. Megan enrolls in Musical High, an inner city school, where she makes friends like Tracy, Charity, and Thomas. Although she has given up dancing since her mother's passing, she and Thomas instantly connect through dance and decide to bring together a dance crew to win $5,000 in a dance contest. Sound familiar? The film is a loosely based spoof on the 2001 dance flick "Save the Last Dance," which stars Julia Stiles and Sean Patrick Thomas.
The cast includes Shoshana Bush as Megan, Damon Wayans Jr. as Thomas, Essence Atkins as Charity, David Alan Grier who plays Sugar Bear, Amy Sedaris as Ms. Cameltoe, and Brennan Hillard who plays the role of Jack.
Written by Keenen Ivory Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Craig Wayans, and Damien Dante Wayans, this film brings together two generations of the Wayans clan.
The Wayans brothers manage to re-create the "Save the Last Dance" plot in an entertaining and hilarious way. While much of the content about race is irreverent, the context in which it is portrayed sheds a silly, outrageous light on it.
