America's Sweethearts
Directed by Joe Roth, “America’s Sweethearts” is the perfect, light-hearted romantic comedy that will leave a smile on your face. With an all-star cast, this film blends the perfect amount of humor and romance, making it a great date-movie.
“America’s Sweethearts” revolves around two of America’s favorite movie stars on and off the screen, Eddie Thomas and Gwen Harrison. However, after Gwen has an affair with Latin hunk Hector, Eddie spends a year and a half in a mental hospital recovering from the breakup. Although Gwen and Eddie discover that they hate each other, the rest of the world still loves the two together. Therefore, the two are forced to attend a press junket to promote their new and last movie together, as well as to gain publicity while the director holds the film hostage. With an unexpected turn of events, Eddie falls in love with Kiki, Gwen’s younger sister, who is always at her sister's beck and call.
The film features a talented cast with some of Hollywood’s favorites, including Julia Roberts as Kiki the younger sister, Billy Crystal as Lee Phillips, the movie’s publicist, Catherine Zeta-Jones as Gwen Harrison, John Cusack as Eddie Thomas, Hank Azaria as Hector Gorgonzolas, Christopher Walken as Hel Weidman, the director, and Stanley Tucci as Dave Kingman.
This film is packed with jokes that will have you laughing from the beginning.
In addition, Christopher Walken’s zany role as the director adds something refreshing and original to a cliché romantic comedy. Billy Crystal also delivers a superb quirky performance.
“America’s Sweethearts” is a great movie filled with unforgettable performances and ingenious jokes. All in all, this film is a crowd-pleasing feature that you and your sweetheart will be sure to enjoy.
