Children of Men

A world where no one can have children

Imagine a world where having a child was impossible. This is the grim world that is shown in the 2006 movie "Children of Men", starring Clive Owen.

The movie is set in the United Kingdom in the year 2027. For the past 18 years no child has been born. No one knows why women have not been able to conceive, but it has left the world in peril. The United Kingdom is said to be the only remotely civilized place in the world, but this changes as Britain is forced to become a military state as violence rises and there is an increasing number of immigrants trying to make it into the country. When the youngest person in the world dies there seems to be no hope left for society. Theo Faron (Owen) is unwillingly pulled into the chaos as he helps to find safe transport for the only woman in the world to be pregnant, who also happens to be an African immigrant.

I fell upon this movie by mistake, and to be quite honest, I am very happy I made it. It is hard to imagine a world where you know that no one else could be born and have to face the fact that it will all be over soon. This movie had all the wheels in my head spinning. Not only did it have you thinking, it was intense from beginning to end as you sat at the edge of your seat just waiting to see what will happen next. The movie did not make as much money as it should have in theaters but it is definitely a must see to anyone who wants something that is different to watch.
