My Sister's Keeper

While you might be thinking "My Sister's Keeper" is the ultimate chick flick, this drama will touch every man and every woman. This film is a truly heartfelt piece of work that will tug at your heartstrings from start to finish.

Directed by Nick Cassavetes, "My Sister's Keeper" is based on the novel by Jodi Picoult. It tells the story of Sara Fitzgerald and her husband, Brian, who have been devoted to the idea of using their daughter, Anna, to help her older sister, Kate, battle leukemia. Anna has gone through countless medical procedures to keep her sister alive, which she does willingly every single time. Although she loves her sister very much, once her parents decide to give Kate one of Anna's kidneys, Anna refuses. She decides to hire a lawyer and sues for the right to her body, causing all sorts of upset within the family. While all this chaos occurs around her, leukemia-stricken Kate feels responsible for ripping the family to shreds.

This film stars Abigail Breslin as Anna Fitzgerald, Sofia Vassilieva as her older sister, Kate Fitzgerald, Cameron Diaz, who plays the role of their mother, Sara Fitzgerald, Jason Patric as her husband, Brian Fitzgerald, Heather Wahlquist as Aunt Kelly, Evan Ellingson as Jesse Fitzgerald, Alec Baldwin as Sara's lawyer, Campbell Alexander, and Nicole Marie Lenz, who plays Gloria.

While this film will have you weeping, it is unlike a sappy teen drama or soap opera. Written by Jeremy Leven and Nick Cassavetes, the script is poignant and the acting is lovely.

So grab your tissue box and head out to see one of the most worthy must-see films out this summer.
