(500) Days of Summer
A charming romantic comedy that you will fall in love with.
You will fall in love with “(500) Days of Summer” from the beginning. Yes, it is a romantic comedy and like all romantic comedies, this follows quite a conventional story. However, rarely in these types of films do you find genuine heart and a connection. “(500) Days of Summer” is a warm, funny, and brilliantly made must-see movie.
Directed by genius Marc Webb, this film tells the story of an offbeat romance between two people, a young man named Tom, who will never be complete until he falls in love, and a young woman named Summer, who doesn’t believe true love exists in the first place. Despite Summer’s cynical view about love, Tom decides to go after her and inevitably falls for her beauty, her charm, and her intelligence.
This film stars “3rd Rock from the Sun” star Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Tom, Zooey Deschanel as Summer, Geoffrey Arend as McKenzie, Chloe Moretz as Rachel, and Matthew Gray Gubler as Paul. Clark Gregg, Patricia Belcher, and Rachel Boston are also featured throughout the film.
The success of this film lies in its story and its dialogue. Writers Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber have created a charming, true to life screenplay. What makes the script so realistic is the way in which it deals with falling in love. Eliminating much of the fairy tale nonsense that most romantic comedies exhibit, “(500) Days of Summer” displays the letdowns, the risks, and the unpredictability of it.
While Deschanel and Gordon-Levitt lack on-screen chemistry, both deliver outstanding individual performances. The two truly bring Summer and Tom to life.
This rom-com is so good that everyone, including guys, will enjoy.
