What a Girl Wants

A movie review

What a Girl Wants is a 2003 film starring Amanda Bynes, Colin Firth, and Oliver James. It is actually a remake of the 1958 movie, called "The Reluctant Debutante," which is a fact of which most people are not aware. "What a Girl Wants" is about a young American girl named Daphne, who never actually knew her father. She was raised alone by her mother. On the spur of the moment, she travels to London to finally have her dream of knowing her father come true. Even though he was surprised that she even existed, her father welcomed her into his home and life. Of course, it was not really all as simple as it sounds. Daphne has to adapt to her father's new lifestyle and also has to deal with his new family who doesn't seem too fond of her.

It was definitely a cute teen movie. I have actually watched it several times and have not been annoyed with it. Amanda Bynes is a talented actress and I never noticed it. I remember her when she was only a young Nickelodeon star and thought she was pretty corny but she has truly grown into her own. There were a few corny parts in the movie, like when she ends up being on the stage of a fashion show and decides to pretend to be a part of it. That was not realistic at all, but then again, most movies are not supposed to be. Overall I enjoyed it.
