Sixteen Candles
Sixteen Candles is an '80s cult classic movie that is directed by John Hughes. It starred Molly Ringwald and Anthony Michael Hall. The comedy was released in 1984. It was definitely a pure example of what the '80s were like and also could be used to describe the teens of today. Molly Ringwald played the main character of Samantha Baker. When her sixteenth birthday arrives she is shocked to see that no one in her family remembered. The entire family was more focused on the wedding plans for her older sister's marriage that was set to take place the next day. Along with that, Samantha had a crush on a guy that barely noticed she was alive and is also being semi-stalked by a freshman who wanted to be seen as popular (and manages to actually get her underwear to show off). A large portion of the movie takes place within 24 hours of her birthday.
It was one of those movies that you have to watch to enjoy the full experience rather than hear about it from someone else. It is too hilarious for words. Any female can relate to RIngwald's character and the experience she went through. Maybe not everyone has had their entire family forget their birthday but I can also be certain that everyone has had at least one crush that seemed to never go away. It was a cute movie that had many comical moments. It also made way for a stream of movies starring Ringwald and Hall. It was also pretty funny to see how small Hall was in the '80s and compare it to the man he has grown into today.
