Vampire in Brooklyn
Vampire in Brooklyn is a 1995 horror film that was directed by Wes Carven. Even though it is known as a horror film, many consider this movie to be a comedy because of its lead actor, Eddie Murphy. The movie also starred Angela Bassett, John Witherspoon, and Kadeem Hardison. The title says it all; this is a vampire movie. Way before vampire Bill from "True Blood" and Edward Cullen from "Twilight," there was Maximillian. This suave and dapper vampire found his way to Brooklyn from the Caribbean in search of something he considers precious. This precious item was not an item at all, but a woman. This woman is the daughter of a vampire who is from his island. The woman turns out to be a police officer named Rita Veder. Rita is completely unaware that she is part vampire and is actually struggling with her own issue of dreams that seem unrealistic. Max manages to bite and turn her into a full vampire but she fights to not cross over to the side of darkness even as Max tries to force her in that direction.
It was not the best movie but it was entertaining to see Eddie Murphy as a vampire. He actually played a very good one. The way he carried himself throughout the film made it believable that he was a vampire. The film had its funny moments, especially every time John Witherspoon came on screen. No matter where you put Witherspoon, his clique lines will always cause laughter. He made this movie more enjoyable than it would have been if he were not a part of the cast.
