Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
As Harry continues his studies at Hogwarts, he tries to understand who the Half Blood Prince is.
David Yates' "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" is a good addition to the series. This time Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) discovers a book in his potions class that was used by the Half Blood Prince. In the process of understanding this previous owner, Harry learns more about Lord Voldemort's past than he could have ever imagined. However, Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton), Voldemort's representative, is out to ruin his plan.
At the same time, signs of the young characters' maturity levels appear in their crushes on one another. To begin, Harry and Ginny Weasley (Bonnie Wright), Ron's sister, like each other. At the same time, Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) ignores the fact that Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) has a crush on him.
Yates writes a sequel that is unique yet expected. In this movie, Harry ventures out on a typical mission to find something, which many viewers may expect. However, there are some unique, unexpected twists added to this movie.
The first twist I noticed was the added humor, in particular with Ron's character. Every so often he would have one-liners that fit perfectly. I think these one-liners helped keep the audience's interest. Another twist I noticed was the addition of the love attractions between the characters. I did not see either of these twists coming, and because of that, I enjoyed that they were added.
Also, I thought the everyone's acting was well-done. I especially thought that Harry was extremely well-done.
Another aspect of the movie that was well-done was the its relateability. First, because the actors are older now, I found them easier to relate to.
Secondly, the story was written so that it was easy-to-follow for non-avid Harry Potter fans. For someone who only saw the first movie and never read the books, I found the plot in this movie still easy to follow. One does not have to see or read one before the other; they would still be able to follow the plot in this movie. That was well-done.
Finally, one suggestion I would have for the movie is to make Malfoy’s character play more of a role in the movie. It is almost as if the storyline with his character is introduced, but not elaborated on enough.
In the end, Harry makes a decision that could change his life at Hogwarts forever.
