Now and Then

Four best friends recall one summer of fun and adventure.

“Now and Then” is a must see, must have 1995 film starring Demi Moore, Rosie O’Donnell, Melanie Griffith and Rita Wilson. Directed by Lesli Linka, the film tells the story of four best friends growing up in Savannah, Georgia. It’s a wonderful story about friendship, love, hardship and growing up.

The film jumps from present to past as it tells the story about four 12-year-old girls who are best friends, and who are now adults living separate and completely different lives. In the beginning, the girls make a pack that they will always be there for each other. Sam Albertson (Moore) was always curious about the death of “Dear Johnny” and believes in the paranormal. Roberta Martin (O’Donnell) grows up a tomboy after her mother died in a car accident, leaving her the only girl in the household. She struggles to cope with her mother’s death and leads the girls in a rivalry against the Wormer brothers. But in the end, she finds herself falling for one of them. Chrissy DeWitt (Wilson) is a naïve girl that grows up with an overbearing mother who shelters her. Tina “Teeny” Tercell Griffith) is a rich girl who grows up by herself since her parents are rarely around. She’s very girly and loves dressing up and makeup. As adults, they come together to reminisce about their younger days and their wild and fun experience together one summer. The movie comes together perfectly from start to finish.
