This French film tells the true story of legendary singer Edith Piaf.
“Le Vie En Rose” is a 2007 French film based on the life of Edith Piaf. Directed by Olivier Dahan, who was nominee for the Cesar Award, the film tells the story about the legendary French chanteuse and her signature song. The film went on to win five Cesars, one of which was an Academy Award for Marion Cotillard's performance in the film. She was also the very first French actress who won Best Actress BAFTA and also the first to have won a Musical or Comedy Golden Globe for a role in a foreign language.
The film goes back and forth in Piaf's life, which includes her childhood as a young girl brought up into poverty and a prostitution house during 1918. She's informally adopted by Titine and is cared for by another prostitute who are repeatedly abused by their customers. As the movie continues, she grows up to be a grown woman singing on the streets with her friend for money. However, one day while she's singing in the streets, she attracts a man named Louis Leplee with her voice. Louis is an owner of a nightclub and transforms her into a star by training her how to sing properly. She jumps from manger to manager and when Louis is shot, many people associate her with his murder. She continues on to lead an extraordinary, heartbreaking, and memorable life as a legendary singer of her time. The film is heartbreaking and brilliantly put together. Afterwards, viewers will find themselves listening to her beautiful songs.
