Girlfriends - Season One
Girlfriends (Executive Producer Kelsey Grammer) is another fabulous "four female friends" show about dating, dumping, and the power of friendship.
The first season introduces the main characters. Joan Clayton (Tracee Ellis Ross) is a successful lawyer with curly hair who is cheery and shies away from confrontations unless it's completely necessary. Her best friend since childhood, Toni Childs (Jill Marie Jones), is quite the opposite, with a fierce, self-centered personality who is a hard-hitting real estate agent. Maya Wilkes (Golden Brooks), Joan's assistant at the law firm, is married and had a baby (Jabari) when she was just a teenager. Adopted, free-spirited Lynn Searcy (Persia White) has many post-graduate degrees but gets dead-end jobs and constantly lives with one of her girlfriends. These strong personalities make for a marvelous season one.
In the beginning of the season, things don't look too good for Maya and Toni in the friendship department. The only thing they have in common is Joan. Even so, the four go out together and find out that they have each other's back. In the dating department, Joan has interests in more than one man; Maya is in wedlock with her hubby from high school; Toni is forever searching for that perfect . . . rich man; and Lynn doesn't care who she gets as long as she gets some. While finding that special person to share their lives with, they all know that no matter what, their friendship will last an eternity.
Once you start watching the season, the force will pull you right in. With entertaining situations and unpredictable outcomes, the season truly makes a name for itself.
