Final say: New Moon is an unbelievable movie.
No, really, it is. And that's the problem. Throughout, I continually asked myself: why don't I like this movie? As the film was nearing the end of its second hour that felt like its third, it hit me: I just don't believe in their love.
And why is that such a huge point? Let's break it down. It's a vampire movie, yet there's hardly any action, definitely no gore. Same for the werewolf element. Sure, it makes for an interesting twist, but in the end the new introductions don't really do much. So, it's not a horror movie. Ok, doesn't have to be. Not an action flick. I can live with that. And although New Moon brings new elements and rules to the world of vampires and werewolves, it doesn't dive in completely, so the kind of enchantment found in Harry Potter isn't the appeal. When you get right down to it, at its core Stephenie Meyer's sequel is (or, rather, should be) a love story.
And I'm just not buying.
