Taran Davies along with Walied Osman , an Afghan American entrepreneur,meet first with a friend of Osman named Ad Sharza who lives in Queens. Thisgentleman is a member of the Afghan royal family and for 6 months was tortured.Memories of his ordeal are so vivid and painful he wishes Afghanistan to be bombed,so life can start all over.
Their next journey leads them to a family in Tajikistan where Shukria wasonce a doctor and Ali a journalism professor. Now living in a small apartmentwith their four children, their main hope is to move to Canada and live withAli's mother. Unfortunately and sadly, they're unable to travel because their visawas rejected. A heart wrenching request is asked by Ali, so he could record avideo message to be sent back to his mother when Taran Davies makes his journeyhome. The request is granted and followed through in the utmost respect.
Next, it's off to Afghanistan to meet Hadji Ahmed Shamsadin, a well knownand respected man who bears the wisdom, hope and blessings for his country tobecome a peaceful and beautiful place once again. His son, Zia, is a soliderand reflects back on his happy childhood ,but now the town thathe grew up in is gone due to the years of war. He is saddened by the waychildren are seeing life as only war, not knowing about the past, just what is nearthem now.
The next journey on the map leads them to Shari Bazurg to meet with NajibNajibullah who's head of the World Food Program, and one of the many who havehelped build a road. A celebration was planned but canceled due to the extremerainy weather. The road now lay muddy. A sad end to all the hard work.
