Puss in Books: Adventures of the Library Cat

Libraries and cats...a purrfect combination.

Iron Frog Production's, Gary Roma produced and directed the award-winning Puss in Books: Adventures of the Library Cat.

This documentary traces the story of libraries and librarians across the United States that have given a cat or cats a place to call their home.

Phyllis Lahti is the founder and director of The Library Cat Society and publishes The Library Cat Newsletter. Lahti's love, respect, and dedication is evident through her advocating this rewarding marriage of cats and books, and the people who check them out.(books that is, and you will see what I mean by that.)

Spencer Public Library in Iowa received a surprise one day when they found a tiny kitten hidden under a pile of books in the drop slot. This kitten received the name Dewey and became a permanent resident of the library.

Douglas County Public Library in Nevada is where Baker and Taylor became the most recognizable of cats in a library. Their names were passed down so to speak, from the great relationship the library has with the renowned Baker & Taylor book distributors.

There are lots of adorable cats and tidbits of stories about them, which make this documentary so sweet to watch. Also included, are interviews for and against cats in library settings with some of those interviews presented being very strong willed in their beliefs, such as those who are against it due to allergies.

But most of all, it is about the joy and harmony that a cat can bring to a library.

This is a charming, heartfelt and passionate look at those who adore the feline species. Through love, humor, and honesty, it is a magical treat for us cat lovers to witness such mystical creatures, roam in such a place of serenity as a library holds.

I was deeply touched by this enlightening and very special documentary. I was happy to come across this at my local library. In fact, I'm going to ask them if having a library cat in their establishment would be of interest.
