I've Been Waiting for You
Someone is playing a deadly trick on high school students.
This TV movie is based on Lois Duncan's Novel "Gallows Hill" and is a creepy, atmospheric and yummy good fright, into the world of the supernatural. It aired last Sunday on Lifetime Television as part of their "Haunted Sunday" line up and if you're a fan of Lifetime, like I most certainly am, then it was a sure fire bet that this movie was a treat and not a trick.
The story first presents itself by taking the viewer back to the past and showing a group of young people breaking into and dragging a girl out of her house. They accuse her of being a witch and burning her at the stake, but before she is murdered she vows to take her revenge on the descendants of her accusers.
The story is now set 300 years later in Pine Crest, a quaint little New England town, where single mother Rosemary ( Markie Post) and daughter Sarah ( Sarah Chalke) move into the same house where the supposed witch once lived and is rumored to be haunting.
On their first night, while Rosemary goes out for food, Sarah gets some strange phone calls from a voice saying " I've Been Waiting for You" and "Sarah Welcome Home." But how could that be when Rosemary tried the phone before she left the house and it wasn't working?
Sarah is very different from the other kids in school, not only because of her mannerisms, taste in clothes, and her flip attitude, but mainly because she has moved into the witch's house.
A group of popular kids, Kyra ( Soleil Moon Frye), Eric ( Christian Campbell), Debbie ( Maggie Lawson), Kevin ( Chad Cox) and Misty ( Julie Patzward), make it difficult and challenging at times for Sarah, but that does not stop her from getting some great cracks of her own in. Sarah is a practicing witch who also enjoys dabbling in palm reading and casting cleansing spells.
Not only do these kids know about the history of Sarah's house but also the curse. They have been waiting for the "witch" to appear, knowing that they are the disciples the witch said she would be after. It also doesn't help that the witch's name was Sarah.
Sarah does make a friend with Charlie ( Ben Foster), an outsider type who works at Pandora's Books & Crystals specializing in occult items. And her mom is dating Ted (Tom Dugan), the history teacher, who also has an interest in the witch's curse.
The group now fears for the worst since one of their own has been killed (or that is how it appears to look) and horrible things have happened to other members of the group since the "witch" has appeared.
So is the witch coming back for her revenge or is it someone playing an awfully dangerous and deadly game? You'll be surprised when you find out!
I've Been Waiting for You is pretty creepy at times and has that " I Know What You Did Last Summer" feel, which would make sense since Duncan wrote those books, which later turned into movies. There is also that "Scream" feeling mixed in there as well.
So all in all, this movie makes for an interesting, campy, and decent thriller to watch.
Sarah Chalke was perfectly sarcastic, strongly rooted in her beliefs, and very engaging to watch. Soleil Moon Frye was another standout performer who really captivated the screen with her sleaziness. Ben Forster and Christian Campbell both grabbed and squeezed your interest with their quirky personalities.
Overall, a great cast made this spooky movie all the better to watch.
