High School can be a pretty tough time to fit into. The pressure of gettinggood grades, playing sports, dating, and peer pressure, in general, butwhat if you're the new girl in town? That can be a whole other ball game.
Sarah (Robin Tunney) is the new girl with a troubled past who tried tocommit suicide. She carries the pain of knowing her mom died when givingbirth to her and it is something that just eats away at her. But Sarah issettling into who she is and what she believes to be goodness around now.
Sarah has made an impression on three witchy girls who are looking for afourth to complete their circle. These girls all have something about themthat make them stand out among their classmates other than the rumors ofpracticing witchcraft. Bonnie (Neve Campbell) is tormented by the awfulburn scars that cover parts of her body. Rochelle (Rachel True) ispainfully made fun of by Laura (Christine Taylor), the blond snob goddessof the school because she doesn't like the color of Rochelle's skin. Then,there is Nancy (Fairuza Balk) the most verbal and opinionated in the group.
Sarah has also caught the eye of Chris (Skeet Ulrick) one very popular andhandsome jock who Nancy warns Sarah to stay away from because he is hurtfuland diseased and has the power to make her life miserable.
At first, things are fun and innocent while little magical powers arecoming into play, but the girls wish for spells to take certain form andsoon dangerous and vengeful emotions start brewing. When Sarah starts tofeel guilty over the love spell she cast on Chris she looks for help fromLirio (AssumptaSerna), the owner of a magical shop. She warns the girls that whatever yousend out you get back three times and now Sarah will have to wait the spellout and hope it doesn't cause any further problems.
After Nancy has invoked the spirit of Mano she seeks out Chris and plotsher revenge on him for the pain he has caused her.
After what Nancy did to Chris, Sarah wants out of the group for the guiltconsumes her. Her magic spell lead to an awful fate for Chris that shouldnever have happened.
Now Sarah has the fight of her life in front of her. With Nancy's magic,now turned evil, and Bonnie and Rochelle under her wing they're out to getSarah for deserting the coven.
Believing in herself, the power of her mother, and invoking the spirit ofMano for the greater good is the only way Sarah has a chance to fight theevil in Nancy.
The Craft is an enjoyable movie with a great cast and lots of specialeffects to enhance the look and feel of the movie.
Music includes Letters to Cleo who did an awesome cover of the Cars classic"Dangerous Type." Other artists include Jewel, Matthew Sweet, and Love SpitLove who did a fabulous cover of the Smiths ageless song "How Soon Is Now."
