Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
Review of the third installment of the epic trilogy
The final piece. The one that has been in the making for three years. The
one that's had you talking to your friends about what
will happen for three years, is finally here. No, I'm not talking about Neo, the confused one; we did that already. I'm talking about the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. The epic adventure comes to an exhilarating end in the third
installment of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The film, which clocks in at three hours and twenty-five minutes is the longest of the three and will have you on the edge of your seats the whole time.
Questions of Frodo and Sam's survival and Aragorn becoming King of Gondor are finally answered.
The Return of the King starts off interestingly enough, telling the story
of how Smeagol became Gollum. After this creepy but important scene, we
get taken back to the current story of Middle Earth. Throughout the story
there are several pitfalls and problems between Sam, Frodo, and
Gollum. The saga between the three leads up to to the bitter
end. While their quest continues, Aragorn and company prepare for the
war against the forces of Sauron.
The battle sequences are better than the first two movies by far,
incorporating bigger forces, more men and overall amazing battle
scenes. Through all of the battle turmoil, Aragorn stands
out as the driving force and will of the men at war. He truly goes through
every effort to emerge and become king. Giving details of this situation
and movie will only put a damper on your experience and although in the
past I would tend to give details on movies, in this case I stand back in
order to let the viewer appreciate the epic story that is The Lord of the Rings.
Seeing the first two is essential to capturing the whole moment in the end. This
really is an excellent movie that incorporates elements of heroism, love
and heart. Although I am an avid fan of the trilogy, I would recommend
this film to anyone. Return of the King is truly a film essential for the holiday season.
