A Diva's Christmas Carol

Get down for a funky good time with another version of Dickens's classic "A Christmas Carol," VH1's "A Diva's Christmas Carol." This time in the coveted role of the mean spirited do-no-gooder is Vanessa Williams as Ebony Scrooge.

This modern take stars its Scrooge as a glossy diva with one heck of a PMS case year round. Bob Cratchett (Brian McNamara) has been apart of Ebony's career from the beginning but all the Diva's unrealistic demands have been taking a toll on his wife Kelly (Linda Goodwin) and their sick little boy Tim (Joshua Archambault) so much so that Bob's marriage and his job is at jeopardy.

No need to brush up on the theme of this story, for yes, it has been presented to us in so many remakes and the ending is always the same (which I wouldn't want any other way). But this one is different, and that's what makes this a hip, fresh, and styling movie. There are also some pretty fancy special effects that contribute to the dazzle of the movie.

There's some great casting including Rozanda "Chilli" Thomas (from TLC) who is Marli Jacob the long suffering ghost to appear to Ebony and who we get to see perform with Ebony in their fictional group "Desire," pre-solo career days.

Comedienne Kathy Griffin stars as the Ghost of Christmas Past. Just love her ghostly flipness! John Taylor of Duran Duran fame plays the Ghost of Christmas Present and he makes good use of all his flashy and slick charm by having a gaggle of babes, booze and a great sense of humor too!

Must not forget the music, since this is a diva-inspired tale. Songs like the upbeat, danceable "Heartquake," lively "Sleigh Ride" and ballad, "Heart of Christmas" offered inspirational appeal.

Entertaining and fun, A Diva's Christmas promises a new spin on an old classic.
