An American in Paris
When raw talent meets glorious artistic expression, great things happen. An
American in Paris is no exception. Imagine a film dripping with tap-dancing
by Gene Kelly, ballet by Leslie Caron, people dancing through French
paintings, costumes in every imaginable color, and incredible song and dance routines.
Winner of six Academy Awards: Best Picture, Best Director (Vicente
Minnelli), Best Writing (Story & Screenplay), Best Art Direction Set
Decoration (Color), Best Costume Design (Color) and Best Music (Scoring of a
Musical Picture), it has become a testament to perfection on film.
The dazzling and immensely talented Gene Kelly plays American painter, Jerry Mulligan. Mulligan has moved to Paris to find his artistic inspiration and instead finds his life inspiration in beautiful Parisian Lise Bouvier (played by the gorgeous Leslie Caron). She has feelings for him, but she is engaged to the famous singer, Henri Baurel (Georges Guétary).
Jerry also has another problem, in that he is mixed up with a wealthy socialite who decides to sponsor his artistic endeavors and has set up an extravagant
exhibition for the struggling artist. Will love prevail? You'll just have to indulge yourself and find out.
