Xena Season Three
Good for the average view, great for fans.
Xena has received a cult fan base due to a unique combination of fantasy, action and even a little underlying tone of lesbianism... or so the fan sites proclaim. On February 10th, 2004, the 3rd season was released with over nine hours of new material.
How does the DVD rate?
Well, by the third year it seems that things got on a roll and the characters reached a point way past introduction, to the point of in-depth discovery. Admittedly, the DVD is probably best for die-hard fans unless you’ve bought Seasons One and Two. However, considering this review is for the fans, the bonus material is probably of most interest.
Bonus-wise, they go over the top. Nine Hours of bonus material with never-before-seen footage, alternate takes and discovered scenes. Wait, that’s not all... it has the standard-crew commentaries by nearly everybody involved with production including Lucy Lawless, Hudson Leick and Ted Raimi.
In addition, there’s a blooper reel with some cute material and a photo gallery, but certainly for fans. There’s also a CD-Rom that really brings forth in-depth information on the characters including biographies, photos and video clips, plus games, etc...
Overall, extra wise, this is for any die-hard fan. If you love Xena, you’ll be thrilled and completely satisfied.
