Little Alvin and the Mini-Munks
Ok, so my 2-year-old son liked the movie; he was into it, he wanted to see it twice, it was great. Let me tell you what the best part for adults was. This DVD contains advice for children put in such I way, that I too was amazed and mesmerized by the film.
Alvin and friends have been reinvented again, for another generation. I remember the Chipmunks, and how Alvin always made me mad and I identified with Simon. Yes, I am a nerdy brainiac. This time though, we get a look at our boys, the chipmunks, at a younger stage of their lives.
We get to see our old friend Alvin as a puppet, and he interacts with live adults in this feature. Children’s feelings are explored and discussed. Children are told that all feelings are good, and that they should not be hidden. With help from friends, our boys deal with many emotions, and talk them through.
My favorite part was when Alvin, of course, angered Simon. Simon was so mad that he wanted to hit Alvin. In children, this is a common feeling and I have learned of an excellent way to help kids deal with it and, so have the Chipmunks. I am getting to what that way is, hold your horses.
At one part of the show, La Lu, the babysitter, discusses Simon’s feeling and that it is perfectly natural to feel the need to express anger physically. What La Lu gives Simon is what I have given my own kids, a Bop Bag. You remember, a blow up piece of plastic with sand at the bottom. When you hit it, it bounces right back to you.
Simon loves it, and starts to feel better. When I saw this scene, my positive feelings about this movie doubled. I highly recommend this DVD to all families. There are times when we, as adults, find it hard to deal with our emotions. We can do our children a great favor by beginning them on a positive emotional road with this movie.
