Fog, The
Preparations are in place for the centennial celebration of Antonio Bay's quaint seaside town, unaware of the terror that soon will take it over.
When Father Malone (Hal Holbrook), finds a journal buried behind a rock wall in the church basement, he discovers a troubling secret, an evil, set to take revenge on six descendants of Antonio Bay between midnight and 1:00 am.
Local disk jockey, Stevie Wayne (Adrienne Barbeau), broadcasts her show out of the historic lighthouse she owns and notices, one night, a green glowing fog creeping over the ocean. She radios to a local ship, advising them of an approaching fog, but the next day, Stevie learns the ship and its crew is missing.
More eerie and deadly occurrences continue to claim residents of Antonio Bay, leaving it up to Stevie, Father Malone and a group of locals, Nick Castle (Tom Atkins), Kathy Williams (Janet Leigh), and a hitchhiker, Elizabeth Solley (Jamie Lee Curtis), to figure out a way to end the curse.
"The Fog" is very tense and creepy and, at times, both horrific and campy in the classic B-movie fashion. A strong script, great acting, gorgeous ocean scenery and the terrific use of lighting, captured the essence of "The Fog" and its murderous intentions.
The special edition DVD features many extras including commentary, trailers, original 1980 documentary: "Fear on Film: Inside The Fog," outtakes and advertising gallery.
"The Fog" is one of John Carpenter's best, for it doesn't just use the mechanics of horror to scare you, but the element of good old-fashioned suspense.
