Big Easy, The
A spicy and seductive blend of crime and romance in steamy New Orleans.
When a string of bloody gang murders and drugs works its way into detective Remy McSwain's (Dennis Quaid) jurisdiction, he's ready to take the case. Remy is a good, hard-working cop, but does enjoy the French benefits that come from being an upholder of the law. Though some may find this kind of behavior a bit on the sly side, including the head strong and opinionated Assistant District Attorney Anne Osborne (Ellen Barkin), who’s been assigned to follow up on the murders and is also investigating police corruption.
Remy and Anne butt heads from the instant they meet and soon find themselves not only entangled in a complicated crime, but with each other. But what happens when Remy is shown on tape taking a bribe from a local storeowner? Now Remy must prove his innocence, find the murderers and hopefully keep the romance between him and Anne cooking on high heat. One tiny problem may stand in Remy's way of he and Anne staying together: a police corruption court case with Remy as the number one guy on trial.
My only two (small) dislikes in the movie start with Dennis Quaid’s accent. It probably took me about mid-way into the story to get comfortable with it. The other is the ending. You see, I'm an end girl. I like the end of bread, I like the end of a good cry, and I like the end of movies. But I didn't get the end of this one. It felt like something was missing. If there were about five more minutes to the movie, that final scene could have left me satisfied.
Other than that, it was a deliciously good movie to watch. Dennis Quaid's rippling torso is more than enough to keep a girl happy. And for the guys there's the leggy and sultry Ellen Barkin to keep you on your toes. With suspense, action, a good story line and supporting cast, The Big Easy is a scorcher of a film!
If you haven't seen The Big Easy, book yourself a rental. I think it's worth the trip.
