Dawn of the Dead
In the film, Polley plays Ana Clark, a nurse who awakens one morning to find that zombies have taken over the world. After nearly being eaten by her newly un-dead husband, she meets up with Kenneth, a police officer played by Rhames, and several others seeking refuge from the blood thirsty zombies. The group finds safety inside a shopping mall, but must figure out how to escape without falling victim to one of the thousands of zombies waiting outside.
While locked in the mall, the group finds a friend in Andy, the owner of the gun store across the street, who is also trapped. Andy entertains his new pals by shooting at zombies who look like celebrities such as Burt Reynolds and Jay Leno.
Dawn of the Dead has graphic and gory scenes, but some great one-liners as well as a musical montage set to a lounge style version of rock band Disturbed’s The Sickness, which was hilarious.
The special effects were good, particularly if you're into exploding heads, of which there are many. The zombies were creepy, but looked more like extras from Michael Jackson’s Thriller video, which added a fun element to the film.
The DVD has some great extras, like a behind the scenes look at how head explosions come alive on screen. It also features "The Lost Tape: Andy's Terrifying Last Days Revealed," which shows the ordeal from Andy's perspective.
The best part of this movie is that while it is scary, it provides a lot of comic relief. I definitely recommend it to anyone who's into zombie flicks, but make sure you watch through the credits, or you'll miss the ending.
